Farriery services

H W Spinks Farriery offers a reliable and quality service for all aspects of farriery in Dorset and surrounding areas, working in conjunction with other equine professionals to provide the best quality of care for your horse.

Services:

Mobile shoeing – Both hot and cold shoeing can be undertaken. All horses are different and so shoes are fitted and customised to take into account your horses gait, conformation and job. This will help you to optimise your horses performance.

As a mobile farrier I am able come to your horse and yard. I travel throughout the south of England however both national and international travel can be arranged to keep you horse in the best condition that it can be.

Whether it is regular foot care or rehabilitation of specific cases or for performance issues, I keep a full inventory of shoes and modern materials in the van to cater for all eventualities.

Therapeutic Shoeing and Trimming – Using the latest techniques and modern materials whilst liaising with your veterinarian or physiotherapist, I am able to use the correct shoes or materials for the job. I regularly attend CPD to learn about new and upcoming techniques.

Bar Shoes – all bar shoes are fabricated on site. This allows me to fit the shoe as required and then use the correct type of bar or remedial insert for the foot. Different conditions and conformations require different bars and inserts.

Crack Repairs – depending upon the type of crack (complicated or non-complicated) slightly different approaches can be taken. I carry a full range of crack repair products to help to fix anything that I may come across. Bar shoes are also used in conjunction with the crack repair to support and stabilise the foot and limb.

Pads and Glues – I carry a selection of pads and glues with me t make sure that I can protected the foot if needed. Different pads and anti-concussion materials can be used to help your horse for conformation problems, foot and limb conditions and also if they are sore on their feet.

Performance Shoeing – 3% may be the difference between first and second with in the discipline that you ride in. I watch every horse dynamically and statically before they are shod and often record the trot up to slow them down and see what the naked eye cant, to help your horse achieve its peak performance. As well as looking at conformation closely I like speaking to the rider and liaising with other professionals that work with your horse as I believe this is key to achieving your performance goals.

Bare Foot Trimming – for horses that are in and out of work. All trims are balanced and non-invasive taking into account conformation and gait, whilst allowing for maximum protection of the foot and its underlying sensitive structures.

Talks and seminars – I enjoy sharing his knowledge with others so please contact me if you would like to arrange anything.
